  2. Choose the Word-ready options: font, size, margins, and optional cover, ToC, or page numbers
  3. Click Export DOCX — the Word document downloads instantly

Everything runs client-side, so you can turn private notes, specs, or AI-generated markdown into a shareable DOCX without uploading the file anywhere.

What carries over to DOCX

  • Document structure — headings H1–H6, paragraphs, thematic breaks
  • Inline formatting — bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code, links
  • Lists — ordered, unordered, nested, and task lists
  • Tables — GFM tables with Word-native table output
  • Content blocks — code blocks, blockquotes, and images
  • Technical content — Mermaid diagrams and LaTeX math
  • Report extras — cover page, table of contents, and page numbers

Frequently asked questions

Does this produce a real .docx file or HTML renamed to .docx?

It produces a real Office Open XML (.docx) file built with native Word structures — headings, paragraphs, tables, and equations. You can open it in Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, Pages, or any DOCX-compatible application.

Can I convert Markdown to Word online without installing anything?

Yes. Paste your markdown, choose the export options, and click Export DOCX. The converter runs entirely in your browser, with no install, no account, and no server upload.

Is the Markdown to Word converter free?

Yes, completely free with no limits, no watermarks, and no sign-up. Everything runs client-side so there is no server cost to pass on.

Do headings, lists, tables, and code blocks carry over into Word?

Yes. The DOCX export keeps the main markdown structure intact, including headings, ordered and unordered lists, task lists, tables, blockquotes, and fenced code blocks.

What happens to Mermaid diagrams?

Mermaid code blocks are rendered to diagrams and embedded as images in the DOCX. If rendering fails, a warning is shown and the raw code is preserved as a code block.

What happens to LaTeX math?

Math expressions are converted to native Word equation markup for the supported LaTeX subset. If a formula cannot be converted cleanly, the original LaTeX is preserved in a readable fallback format and the UI shows a warning.

Why does Word prompt me to update fields on first open?

The table of contents uses Word's built-in field update mechanism. Clicking Update in Word fills in the page numbers correctly, which is normal DOCX behavior.

What fonts are available?

Calibri (default), Arial, Georgia, Times New Roman, Cambria, and Courier New — all Office-safe fonts chosen to open reliably in Word without relying on web fonts.

Will my markdown file be uploaded to a server?

No. The converter runs client-side in your browser tab. Your markdown never needs to leave your device just to create a DOCX file.
